400g rigatoni (or other short pasta)
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 small onion, finely chopped
400g tomato pulp (or chopped tomatoes)
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 teaspoon sugar
150ml single cream (or non-dairy cream)
60g grated Parmesan cheese (or more, to taste)
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
Chili flakes (optional)
Salt and freshly ground pepper
