Prepare the pork:
Trim any excess fat from the pork butt or shoulder and place it in the slow cooker.
Add the liquids:
Pour the bottle of root beer over the pork, followed by half of the BBQ sauce and the Worcestershire sauce.
Season:
Sprinkle the salt and chili powder (if using) over the pork.
Cook:
Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
Shred the pork:
Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Discard any excess fat.
Add remaining BBQ sauce:
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir in the remaining BBQ sauce, ensuring the pork is well coated.
Warm the buns:
While the pork is simmering in the BBQ sauce, lightly toast the hamburger buns in the oven or on a grill.
Serve:
Pile the pulled BBQ pork onto the toasted buns and serve hot. Enjoy!
