1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 quarts oil for frying
Directions
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring to a boil and remove from heat.
Stir in flour until the mixture forms a ball.
Heat oil for frying in a deep-fryer or deep skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
Pipe strips of dough into the hot oil using a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip. Fry until golden; drain on paper towels.
Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon in a shallow dish. Roll churros in cinnamon sugar mixture while still warm.
Variations & Tips
For a different twist, try adding a bit of vanilla extract to the dough for an extra layer of flavor. You can also experiment with different coatings, such as a mixture of powdered sugar and cocoa powder for a chocolatey touch. If you prefer a baked version, pipe the dough onto a baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for about 10-12 minutes, then coat with cinnamon sugar. Remember, the key to perfect churros is in the piping—ensure your dough is smooth and your oil is at the right temperature for the best results.
