1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Open the pack of buttermilk biscuits and cut each biscuit into quarters. Spread the biscuit pieces evenly in the buttered baking dish.
3. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
4. Pour the egg mixture over the biscuit pieces, ensuring all the pieces are coated. Gently press down with a fork to help the bread absorb the liquid.
5. Allow the mixture to sit for about 10 minutes so the biscuits absorb the flavors.
6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
7. Remove from the oven and let it stand for 5 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.
8. Serve warm with a generous drizzle of maple syrup.
Variations & Tips
– To add a fruity twist, scatter a cup of fresh or frozen berries over the biscuit pieces before adding the egg mixture.
– For a spicy kick, sprinkle the top with a pinch of cayenne pepper before baking.
– Create a richer custard by substituting half of the milk with heavy cream.
– If you have a sweet tooth, fold in a handful of chocolate chips or a swirl of caramel into the mix before baking.
– Day-old biscuits can be used in this recipe; they’ll absorb the egg mixture even better, resulting in a more luscious texture.
– For a festive touch during the holidays, try adding a splash of rum or brandy to the egg mixture, or garnish with edible gold or silver leaf post-baking.
