1. Cookie preparation:
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add the butter and rub it into the dry ingredients until it forms a sandy texture.
Add the egg and vanilla, then knead until smooth.
Form small balls of dough and flatten them. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown.
2. Prepare the caramel sauce:
In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar and water, then heat over medium heat until boiling.
Stir until the sugar melts and the mixture thickens.
Add the cream (or sweetened condensed milk) and continue stirring until the sauce is smooth.
3. Assembly:
Place the cookies on a serving platter.
Pour the caramel sauce over the cookies.
Garnish with the apple pieces or walnuts.
