Preparation
Boil the potatoes until just tender, peel, and cut into large pieces.
Trim the green beans and cook them in boiling salted water until almost tender. Drain and reserve the water.
Brown the meat
Cut the beef fillet into large cubes.
Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat and brown the meat on all sides.
Sprinkle the flour over the meat and fry briefly.
Prepare the sauce
Deglaze with the milk, mix well, and bring to a boil.
Add the cream and mix again.
Add enough of the bean water to make a nice, creamy sauce.
Season with salt, pepper, and savory.
Layer and Bake
Layer the potatoes and beans in an open casserole dish.
Pour the meat sauce over the potatoes.
Sprinkle with grated cheese.
Bake in a preheated oven at 175°C for 15 minutes.
Tip:
Substitute the savory with fresh thyme or parsley for an interesting flavor variation. Other vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, or leeks also make excellent side dishes. A splash of tart white wine in the sauce perfectly rounds out the dish.
Enjoy!
