In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well blended. Grease a large baking dish with butter. Arrange the bread slices evenly in the dish. Pour the prepared crème brûlée mixture evenly over the bread slices, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Remove the plastic wrap and bake the French toast in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, until golden brown and firm. After baking, sprinkle sugar evenly over the surface and caramelize with a kitchen torch until the sugar is melted and golden brown. Cut into pieces and serve warm. Garnish with fresh fruit or whipped cream, if desired.
