Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and the melted butter. Mix for 1 minute, or until the mixture is light and airy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate small bowl, sift together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
Fold in the sour cream until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
Sprinkle the remaining 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar evenly over the top of the batter.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool completely in the baking dish before slicing and serving.
