1. Preheat oven to 180Β°C (350Β°F). Grease a baking dish with butter.
2. Wash the strawberries, remove the green leaves, and halve the fruit. Reserve a few strawberries for garnish.
3. Arrange the bread pieces evenly in the baking dish and arrange the halved strawberries on top.
4. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Pour this mixture evenly over the bread and strawberry pieces.
5. Bake the bake in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the center has set.

1. Combine the remaining strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, and water in a small saucepan.
2. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer the mixture for about 10 minutes until the strawberries are soft.
3. PurΓ©e the mixture with an immersion blender until smooth. Strain through a sieve to remove the seeds, if desired.
4. Let the sauce cool slightly.
5. Cut the warm strawberry cake casserole into slices and serve with the strawberry sauce. Garnish with the reserved strawberries.
