Ingredients:
Potatoes (preferably waxy varieties)
Oil (e.g. sunflower oil or canola oil)
Butter (optional, for additional flavor)
Salt and pepper to taste
Spices of choice (e.g. paprika, garlic powder, rosemary)
Fresh herbs (e.g. parsley) to garnish
Instructions:
Wash the potatoes thoroughly and peel them or leave them unpeeled depending on their size. Waxy potatoes are best as they hold their shape when fried.
Cut the potatoes into even pieces. You can cut them into cubes, slices or sticks, depending on your preference.
Soak the cut potatoes in cold water. This will remove excess starch and moisture, resulting in crispier results. After soaking, drain the potatoes well and pat dry with kitchen paper.
Heat oil in a large skillet or frying pan. The amount of oil should be enough to generously cover the bottom of the pan.
Add the potato pieces to the hot pan, making sure they are not too close together so they can cook evenly. You can fry them in batches if they don't all fit in the pan at once.
Fry the potatoes over medium heat, turning occasionally to get them golden brown and crispy on all sides. This may take about 20-30 minutes, depending on the size of the potato pieces and the heat.
When the potatoes are almost cooked, you can optionally add some butter to the pan to give them extra flavor and an even crispier texture.
Season the potatoes with salt, pepper, and desired spices. You can also add fresh herbs to intensify the flavor.
Once the fried potatoes are golden brown and crispy, remove them from the pan and drain them on kitchen paper to remove excess oil.
Arrange the crispy fried potatoes on a serving plate and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
Crispy fried potatoes go well with meat dishes, eggs, vegetables or can also be enjoyed as a hearty snack. They are a delicious side dish that can be prepared in many variations.
