1. In a shallow dish, combine the flour, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Mix well.
2. Pour the buttermilk into another shallow dish.
3. Dip each slice of bacon into the buttermilk, ensuring it is fully coated.
4. Dredge the buttermilk-coated bacon in the seasoned flour mixture, pressing lightly to adhere the flour to the bacon.
5. In a large skillet, heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat until hot.
6. Fry the bacon in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the skillet. Cook each slice for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
7. Use tongs to transfer the fried bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
8. Serve the country fried floured bacon hot and enjoy!
Variations & Tips
For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the flour mixture. If you prefer a sweeter touch, you can drizzle the fried bacon with a bit of honey or maple syrup just before serving. For picky eaters, you can skip the spices and simply flour the bacon for a milder taste. And if you're short on buttermilk, a quick substitute can be made by mixing a tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice with a cup of milk. Let it sit for a few minutes, and it’s ready to use!
