Rinse the cranberries under cold water and pick out any that are soft or discolored.
In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, and orange juice.
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, or until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened.
Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
Transfer to a serving dish or airtight container and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Variations & Tips
For a twist, you can add a cinnamon stick or a pinch of nutmeg while the sauce is simmering for a warm, spiced flavor. If you prefer a less sweet sauce, reduce the sugar to 3/4 cup. You can also substitute half of the orange juice with water for a milder citrus taste. For a bit of texture, stir in a handful of chopped walnuts or pecans after the sauce has cooled.
