Foot pain is a common problem that can affect anyone’s daily life, making even simple activities difficult. Knowing the most common causes of foot discomfort can help you take proactive steps to manage and hopefully prevent pain. Here’s a look at six common foot pain culprits and some tips on what you can do to find relief.
1. Plantar Fasciitis
This is one of the most common sources of heel pain. Plantar fasciitis occurs when the thick band of tissue that runs across the sole of the foot, the plantar fascia, becomes inflamed. Typical symptoms include sharp pain that is usually worse in the morning. Stretching exercises, proper footwear, and sometimes anti-inflammatory medications are effective ways to manage this condition.
2. Bunions
A bunion is a bony bump that forms on the joint at the base of your big toe. This happens when some of the bones in the front of your foot become displaced. This deformity can cause the tip of your big toe to be pulled toward your little toes and force the joint at the base of your big toe to stick out. Wearing roomier, more comfortable shoes and using cushioned insoles can help relieve discomfort.
