Introduction
Hibiscus tea, also known as “sour tea,” is a refreshing herbal infusion made from the dried petals of the hibiscus flower.
With its tart, cranberry-like flavor and striking deep red hue, hibiscus tea is not only a delight to the senses but also a powerhouse of health benefits.
Packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, this tea is particularly known for its weight-loss properties, as it helps to boost metabolism, reduce bloating, and regulate appetite.
Incorporating hibiscus tea into your daily routine is a natural and enjoyable way to support your health goals.
Beyond aiding weight loss, it has a host of other benefits, including supporting heart health, lowering blood pressure, and enhancing immunity.
Whether served hot or cold, this versatile tea is an excellent addition to a balanced lifestyle.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons dried hibiscus petals (or 2 hibiscus tea bags)
4 cups (1 liter) water
1–2 teaspoons honey or your preferred natural sweetener (optional)
1 cinnamon stick (optional, for added flavor)
Lemon slices or mint leaves (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Prepare the Tea Base
In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a gentle boil.
Add the dried hibiscus petals or tea bags, along with the cinnamon stick if using.
Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5–10 minutes, depending on the desired strength.
Strain and Sweeten
Remove the saucepan from the heat and strain the tea into a heatproof pitcher or teapot to remove the petals.
If you prefer a touch of sweetness, stir in honey or your preferred sweetener while the tea is still warm.
Serve Hot or Cold
For hot tea, pour into cups and serve immediately, garnished with a slice of lemon or a sprig of mint if desired.
For iced tea, let the tea cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled. Serve over ice for a refreshing treat.
