Whether you're looking for a one-pot meal or something that can be easily prepared ahead of time, this casserole is the answer!

Ingredients:
500g ground beef (or ground pork/beef mix)
6 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
1 cup (100g) grated cheese (e.g., Gouda or Emmental)
1 cup (240ml) beef broth
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Prepare the potatoes: Peel and slice the potatoes into thin rounds. You can use a mandolin for uniform slices. Set them aside.

Cook the ground beef: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and garlic, sautéing until softened and fragrant. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 5–7 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme.

Assemble the casserole: In the greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the cooked ground beef mixture. Repeat with another layer of potatoes and beef. Pour the beef broth and heavy cream evenly over the layers.

Top with cheese: Sprinkle the grated cheese evenly over the top of the casserole.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.

Garnish and serve: Once the casserole is ready, remove it from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
