Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Slice the French bread in half lengthwise, creating two long pieces.
In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with minced garlic until well combined.
Spread the garlic butter evenly over the cut sides of the bread.
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the buttered bread.
Place the bread halves on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
For an extra crispy top, switch the oven to broil for the last 1-2 minutes, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.
Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, then slice and serve warm.
Variations & Tips
For a more robust flavor, consider adding a sprinkle of Italian seasoning or fresh herbs like parsley or basil before baking. If you prefer a bit of heat, a pinch of red pepper flakes can add a nice kick. For a different cheese profile, try using a blend of mozzarella and cheddar or Parmesan. You can also experiment with different types of bread, such as ciabatta or sourdough, for a unique texture and taste.
