In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In another bowl, combine the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. If desired, fold in chocolate chips.
Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease with butter or cooking spray.
Pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface, about 2-3 minutes. Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until cooked through.
Remove from the skillet and keep warm while you repeat with the remaining batter. Serve warm with your favorite toppings, such as syrup, whipped cream, or additional chocolate chips. Enjoy your chocolate pancakes!
