Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with flour to prevent sticking.
In a heatproof bowl, combine the butter and chocolate chips. Melt them together using a double boiler or microwave, stirring until smooth.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and slightly thickened.
Gently fold the chocolate mixture into the egg mixture. Sift the flour over the top and carefully fold it in until just combined.
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about three-quarters full.
Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center remains soft.
Let the cakes rest for 1 minute, then run a knife around the edges and invert onto serving plates. Serve immediately.
Variations & Tips
For an extra flavor dimension, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract or a pinch of instant espresso powder to the batter. You can also experiment with different types of chocolate, such as dark or milk, depending on your preference for sweetness. For a gluten-free version, use almond flour in place of all-purpose flour. To make this dessert even more luxurious, place a small square of chocolate or a truffle in the center of the batter before baking to ensure an even more gooey center.
