Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until it becomes translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

Pour in the crushed and diced tomatoes, then add the sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if you want a bit of spice. Stir everything well.

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will allow the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken.

Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning as needed. If it’s too acidic, you can add a bit more sugar.

Once your sauce reaches your desired consistency and flavor, remove it from the heat.

Serve your homemade spaghetti sauce over cooked pasta of your choice. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.
